Stingray City Cayman Islands
The origin of Stingray City is rooted in Cayman's fishing culture. In the early days, fishing was a popular way for local families to make a living and often, after a long day at sea, fishermen would stop by this shallow sandbar to clean their catch. Since it also happened to be the stingray's natural habitat, the rays would happily feed on all the free food provided by the fisherman, looking forward to it every time.
In the early years of tourism, visitors would come to the Sandbar with great delight to interact with these friendly rays in their natural habitat. As time went on, the popularity of the rays grew and today the Stingray City Sandbar is one of the greatest wildlife attractions in the world.
The crystal clear water of this majestic sandbar is waist deep with a luxurious sandy bottom that is perfect for getting up close and personal with the rays. Always patiently waiting nearby for free food, they will amaze you with how tame they are and how much they love human interaction.
